The opening ceremonies are slated to take place on Friday, February 9, 2018. The closing ceremonies will occur on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

What Is the Time Zone Difference?

Since the games are happening in South Korea, there will be a big time-zone difference, which will impact all Americans watching the games. How Many Countries Will Be Representing Winter Olympic Sports for 2018?

There will be a total of 92 countries competing in the Olympic Games. This would include top medal contenders such as: Norway, Germany, Canada, and the United States. This list of 92 countries also includes Ecuador, Eritrea, Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore, who are all competing for the first time in the Winter Olympic games!

Even though North and South Korea do not get along, North Korea will be competing at the games under an agreement that has been put in place, to ensure peace.

A country not included in the list of competitors will be Russia, who was ousted due to doping issues. However athletes from the country will still compete under a neutral country flag.

How Many Events Will Be Held at the Winter Olympics 2018?

There are a total of 102 different events, across 15 different sports! The Pyeongchang Olympics will mark the first time in history that the winter games have more than 100 events.

The top fours events with the most medals distributed will be speed skating (14 gold medals), cross country skiing (12 gold medals), alpine skiing (11 gold medals) and the biathlon (11 gold medals).
